Mrs.
Prema Narayanan Passes Away.
This
news unfolded the remembrance of her freeness to help others. She had the
generosity of a life, well lived for couple of decades. Her renowned identity
is ‘Prema Chechi’ for all. She had CKD as per her Doctor, ie Chronic Kidney
Disease. Diabetic, hypertension etc were additional. Her philanthropic activity
might have been an inherent character from her mother Late Damayanthi Amma, a
retired headmistress at Palghat Kerala.
Many seek fame for their big kindheartedness!
But here it was different! All the charitable activities were handled with the
salary of her husband Mr. M. Narayanan Nair. She helped many! Listing out will
not sound good as many such recipients are in good and wealthy stage today.
My
beloved ‘Prema chechi’ lived a simple life. Made her children capable enough to
live decently in the society. Lived with her husband with maximum love,
affection and respect.
She
was a lady who dared to talk in front of anybody. She controlled her associates
with love and affectionate authoritarianism. She was having a very huge link of
people from various walks of life, different linguistic and religious families.
She was a guide and inspiration for many families of her second generation.
I met her during 1975. When I was a trainee
in ITI Ltd. I was not knowing anyone in this locality because I had newly
migrated from a village of Kerala seeking job. She invited me and my friends to
her home once when we met in a function at ITI Community hall. We visited her
house. It was so thrilling for us to receive such a warm welcome. We were sure
that we don’t deserve it. Later we became a visitor in her house frequently and
she would greet us with her usual motherly affection.
I was
about to cancel a decision of joining MEI Polytechnic for DME (Evening Class)
on account of my financial crisis during 1980. She called me to her house
telling some vague reason. I don’t know
how she came to know about it! She asked me about taking admission for DME. I
said ‘I don’t want to join this year. I will join next year’. I tried to
escape. But she didn’t allow me to give more reasons. She called her daughter
and asked to bring the money she gave for her school fees to pay next day, she
put some more in to it and gave the entire admission fee for my DME course. I
couldn’t say even a word against her generosity. I was quite a new young boy
without any back support or even without a proper address in Bangalore. That
was the day I saw her love and affection to her fellow human beings.
Her
brother became a very close friend to me later. He also left us about couple of
years back. Now ‘Prema Chechi’ also has left us. Bidding departure with tears.
She
loved us all! She cannot be separated from my mind. Death cannot kill what
never dies- the root and record of our good old memories.
Wonderful to know all this details from her life. Thank you for sharing.
