Mohan Kumar - the forgotten football player of India.

Once up on a time J Mohan Kumar was the best foot ball player, defender, former India international and ITI defender, the pride of the foremost Public sector Unit of India ITI Ltd,, now keeps vigil at the gates of Mount Carmel College

 Mohan Kumar has fond memories of his golden days when his name often announced through football stadiums and his face was so familiar to the foot ball fans of India.

 The deep defender remembers with a smile on the collective attacks of his team and his teammates with whom he enjoyed, got injured, sweated and toiled. Those were the good golden days in his life and now he has been discarded and forgotten once his legs turned weak and his hair gray.

In a 30-year career as Player and then Coach, Mohan stayed loyal to ITI. He won the inaugural Federation Cup with ITI in 1977.  His tenure in ITI Ltd earned him a call up to the national team.

The legendary player reached the final of the Stafford Challenge Cup in 1980. His football skills took him to Korea, Afghanistan and Malaysia at a time.

He retired from ITI Ltd and joined as the Football Coach in Garden City College. He left abruptly due to differences with his higher ups with regard to the odd jobs assigned for him.

His story is very interesting. Born in Ambur, Tamil Nadu and moved to Bengaluru after Class 11. His parents couldn’t afford to send him to college. He was one of eleven children for his father!

 He finally enjoys the rest of his life manning the gates at Mount Carmel College.

Mohan says “this job is a boon for me. It is better than doing nothing at home! One of my friends is working s as a driver here. I asked him for a job here. He told me that there is an opening for a guard. He did ask me whether I would like to do this work considering I am a familiar footballer who has won many laurels. I told him that I am happy to ensure safety for the staff and students inside the campus. I don’t look at it as something that is beyond my dignity. It’s still a job and I enjoy it.”

രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാരാൽ നിർമിതമായ സർക്കാരെയും, സർക്കാർതലത്തു വിലസുന്ന ഉന്നത ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരെയും വിശ്വസിക്കുവാൻ  പ്രയാസമുണ്ട്!.

ജുഡീഷ്യറിയിലും വിശ്വസിക്കാൻ പറ്റാത്തവരില്ലെന്നല്ല !

ഈ സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ ഒരു തെറ്റായ ശിക്ഷ നൽകിയതിന്  സ്വയം ശിക്ഷിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ന്യായാധിപന്റെ  ഹൃദയസ്പർശിയായ ഒരു കഥ നിങ്ങളറിയണം.

കേരളത്തിലെ കോട്ടയത്തിനടുത്ത് ചെറുവള്ളി ഗ്രാമത്തിലുള്ള ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്ര ത്തിലാണ് 'ജഡ്ജി അമ്മാവനെ' ആരാധിക്കുന്നത്. 

കഥ അത്ഭുതകരമാണ്. 

തിരുവിതാംകൂർ രാജഭരണകാല മായിരുന്നു അത്.

തിരുവിതാംകൂർ രാജാവിന്റെ കീഴിൽ  ഗോവിന്ദ പിള്ള എന്ന ഒരു  ന്യായാധിപനുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം വളരെ ആദരണീയനും തികച്ചും ന്യായമായ വിധികൾ മാത്രം നൽകുന്നവനും ആയിരുന്നു. ഒരിക്കൽ  ആ ജഡ്ജി ഒരു  കുറ്റവാളിക്ക് വധശിക്ഷ വിധിച്ചു. ഉത്തരവാദപ്പെട്ട ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ വിധി നടപ്പാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. പിന്നീടാണ് മനസിലായത്. താൻ നൽകിയ വിധി തികച്ചും തെറ്റായ വിധിയായിരുന്നുവെന്നു.

തന്റെ അശ്രദ്ധ കരണമുണ്ടായത് ഗുരുതരമായ വീഴ്ചയാണന്നു മനസിലാക്കിയ    ജഡ്ജി   ഒരു തെറ്റായ വ്യക്തിയെ ശിക്ഷിച്ചതിൽ ദുഃഖിച്ചു. ശിക്ഷിച്ച വ്യക്തി തന്റെ അനന്തിരാവണന്നതാണ് ഇനിയൊരു സത്യം.

ജഡ്ജി ഗോവിന്ദപിള്ള ഇത് രാജാവിനോടേറ്റുപറഞ്ഞു. തന്റെ ഗുരുതരമായ തെറ്റിന് തന്നെ മാതൃകാപരമായിത്തന്നെ ശിക്ഷിക്കുവാൻ  രാജാവിനോട് കേണപേക്ഷിച്ചു. തനിക്കു വിധി നൽകുവാനുള്ള അധികാരം  ഇല്ലെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് രാജാവ് ജഡ്ജിയുടെ  അപേക്ഷ നിരസിച്ചു!

അവസാനം ജഡ്ജിതന്നെ തന്റെ  വിധിയെഴുതി!  

ജഡ്ജി ഗോവിന്ദ പിള്ള സ്വയം തൂക്കിലേറ്റാൻ സ്വന്തം വിധി എഴുതി!

 വലിയ ആശയക്കുഴപ്പ ത്തോടെ  രാജാവ് വിധി അംഗീകരിച്ചു. ആ കരുത്തനായ ന്യായാധിപൻ മരണം വരെ  തൂക്കിലേറ്റപ്പെട്ടു. വിധിയിൽ പറഞ്ഞ പ്രകാരം തന്നെ തന്റെ കാലുകൾ വെട്ടി ചോരയൊലിക്കുമാറ് മൂന്നുദിവസം മരത്തിൽ കെട്ടി തൂക്കിയാണ് വിധി നടപ്പാക്കിയത്.  

ഗ്രാമീണരുടെ മുൻപിൽ 'നീതി-ന്യായ  വ്യവസ്ഥ'യോടുള്ള ആദരവ്  പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുക യായിരുന്നു ജഡ്ജിയുടെ ലക്‌ഷ്യം

.

ജഡ്ജിയുടെ കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങൾ  ഒരു ജ്യോത്സ്യനെ സമീപിച്ചു. ജഡ്ജിയുടെ ആത്മാവ് തനിക്കു കിട്ടിയ  ശിക്ഷയിൽ ഇപ്പോഴും തൃപ്തിപ്പെട്ടില്ലെന്ന് പ്രശ്നത്തിൽ തെളിഞ്ഞു. അവർ  നിരവധി പൂജാകര്മങ്ങള്  നടത്തുകയും ഒടുവിൽ ചെറുവള്ളി ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്ര ക്ഷേത്ര സമുച്ചയത്തിൽ ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രം  നിർമ്മിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

അങ്ങിനെ കോട്ടയം ചെറുവള്ളി ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലുള്ള മറ്റൊരു പ്രതിഷ്ഠയായ  'ജഡ്ജി  അമ്മാവൻ സുപ്രസിദ്ധമായി!

  

നിയമപ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ നേരിടേണ്ടി വന്നവരും, നിയമത്തിന്റെ നൂലാമാലകളിൽ കുടുങ്ങിയവരുമായ ഒട്ടനവധി ജനങ്ങൾ ജഡ്ജി  അമ്മാവന്റെ അനുഗ്രഹം തേടുന്നതിന് ചെറുവള്ളി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് വന്നുതുടങ്ങി.  കോടതിയിൽ നീതിയ്ക്കും ആശ്വാസത്തിനും വേണ്ടി പ്രാർഥിക്കുന്നവരെ  ഈ ന്യായാധിപനായ ദൈവം തുണക്കുമെന്നു  പറയപ്പെടുന്നു!

In the recent days Judiciary is the only one hope for the general public than that of the politicians made executives and legislature’s.!

With this scenario let us know about heartfelt story of a ‘Judge’ who punished himself for giving an incorrect judgment!

Yes it is the story of the ‘Judge Uncle’ being worshiped at  Cheruvally Sri Bhagavathi Temple , a village near Kottayam, Kerala. The story is amazingly unique and pitiful! It was during the olden days of Travancore Kingdom.

There lived a royal Judge by name Govinda Pillai under the Travancore Kingdom.  He was so respectable and said to be a man of words and his judgment was always fair. Once it so happened that the Judge gave wrong judgment to kill a culprit. Later he realized that his judgment was entirely wrong! He fell in grief that he had punished a wrong person. Surprisingly it was his nephew too.

Judge Govinda Pillai confessed this to the King. He requested the king to punish him for his grave mistake.  The King refused his request by saying that he doesn’t have the authority to give a judgment! Judge Govinda Pillai wrote his own verdict to get himself hanged!   

 The king with great confusion approved the verdict. The Royal Judge was hanged till death, cutting his feet to drain out his blood for three days, in front of the villagers to show his respect towards the ‘system of justice’!

His family members consulted an astrologer who said that the judge’s soul is still not satisfy with the punishment he got. They did several rituals and finally a temple was constructed in the temple complex of    Cheruvally Bhagavathi Temple premises. This shrine has become the famous ‘Judge Ammavan’ temple  in in Cheruvally village of Kottayam.

People who were undergoing legal problems or stuck in a court case came here to seek the blessings from Judge Ammavan. Those who pray for the justice and relief from the court case are said to be granted by this Judge God! 

ചുമടുതാങ്ങി  കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ടോ ?

ചുമടു താങ്ങികളും  വഴിയമ്പലങ്ങളും   പുതിയതലമുറയ്ക്ക് ഒരു കൗതുക കാഴ്ചയായിരിക്കും. ബാംഗ്ലൂരിൽ കല്യാൺ നഗറിലൂടെയുള്ള റിങ് റോഡിലാണ് ഈ കാഴ്ച കാണുവാൻ സാധിച്ചത്. ചുമടുതാങ്ങിയെ ഉദ്ദേശിച്ചാണോ ഇത് സ്ഥാപിച്ചതെന്നും സംശയമുണ്ട്. ഒരു പക്ഷെ ഒരു വേർപെട്ട ഡിസൈൻ ഇരിക്കട്ടെ എന്നായിരിക്കും ഏതു സ്ഥാപിച്ചവർ കരുതിയത്. ഇതുകണ്ടിട്ടു  കേരളത്തിൽ കാലഹരണപ്പെട്ട ചരിത്രസ്മാരകങ്ങളായ ചുമടുതാങ്ങിയെയാണ് ഓർമവന്നത്.

ഒട്ടു മിക്ക ചുമടുതാങ്ങികളും വഴിയമ്പലത്തിനോട് ചേർന്നായിരുന്നുള്ളത്. ഭാരം   ചുമക്കുന്ന വഴി യാത്രക്കാർക്ക് വിശ്രമിക്കുന്നതിനായി പണിതതാണ് വഴിയമ്ബലങ്ങളും ചുമടുതാങ്ങികളും.പുതു തലമുറയ്ക്ക് ആശ്ചര്യമായി തോന്നുന്ന ഇവ എന്താണന്നറിയേണ്ടേ?

വാഹന സൗകര്യങ്ങൾ ഒന്നുമില്ലാതിരുന്ന ഒരുകാലത്തു തലച്ചുമടായിട്ടാണ് വസ്തുവകകൾ കൈമാറിയിരുന്നത്. ദൂരസ്‌ഥലങ്ങളിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയിരുന്നതും തലച്ചുമടായിട്ടാണ്. ചുമടും കൊണ്ട് പോകുന്നവർ ക്ഷീണിക്കുമ്പോൾ വിശ്രമിക്കുന്നതിനാണ് ചുമടുതാങ്ങികൾ. പരസഹായമില്ലാതെ തലച്ചുമടിറക്കിവെക്കുവാൻ വേണ്ടി. ഭക്ഷണവും വിശ്രമവും അടുത്തുതന്നെയുള്ള വഴിയമ്പലങ്ങളിലും.

ഇന്നു ഈ ചുമടുതാങ്ങികൾ വെറും ചരിത്ര സ്മാരകങ്ങളായിതീർന്നു. ബാംഗ്ലൂരെയിലെ കല്യാൺ നഗറിലൂടെ കടന്നു പോകുന്ന റിങ് റോഡിലുള്ള ചുമടുതാങ്ങി, അതുകണ്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്തവർക് ഒരനുഗ്രഹമായിരിക്കും.

Have you seen ‘chumadu thangi’

The ‘chumadu thangi’ will be an interesting thing for the new generation. I have seen a similar thing on the Ring Road in Kalyan Nagar, Bangalore. I don’t think that it is made for the purpose of a ‘chumadu thangi’. Perhaps the man who did it could have thought to have a superlative landscape design.

‘Chumadu thangi’ is remembered in Kerala as an outdated historical monument of the transport of materials to faraway places by human beings as the motor transport was not available. These were commonly available near the road side rest houses known as ‘vazhiyampalangal’ were they were provided with food and place to take rest!

Now these so called ‘chumaduthangi has become  mere historical monuments. Those who do not have seen ‘chumadu thangi’ can visit the walking pathway at the Ring road that passes through Kalyan Nagar, Bangalore.
